Action on today at Eve Leary regardless of weather

2nd Boyce & Jefford Relay & Fun-day…

Organisers of the 2nd Boyce & Jefford Relay & Fun Day have said that the event will go ahead even if there is inclement weather today at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.

Five-a-side football is expected to attract a large crowd at the Boyce & Jefford Funday

After last week’s postponement due to rain, Co-organiser Edison Jefford had stated that they remain optimistic as today’s activities will provide eagerly anticipated excitement.

He noted that with the addition of events such as cycling and races for the Differently-abled athletes, this year’s edition is expected to easily eclipse last year’s, both in terms of support and thrill.

Jefford pointed to the increased interest in the football segment and the inclusion of the wheelchair races and cycling as testimony to the growing interest in the annual extravaganza.

“We’ve decided to add cycling, wheelchair racing as well as increasing the number of teams for the football competition and these developments are as a result of appeals made by the fans and some sponsors to add some more flavour to the day’s activities.”

According to Jefford, dominoes which have become a very popular sport in Guyana also have a great pull among the event’s supporters and a large turnout of teams for this aspect of the Fun Day is expected.

However, the 5-a-side format of football has been enjoying great success and this event is enjoying huge support from residents within the respective neighbourhoods as there are a number of community based teams.

“Sparta Boss” is one of the teams that were invited to compete and they will face teams of the likes of arch-nemesis Back Circle, Agricola Champion Boys, Bent Street, West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’, Camp Street All Stars, the Guyana Police Force, The Guyana Defence Force, Sophia, Kanaimas and Broad Street Bullies.

The Organisers have set 09:30hrs as the deadline for registration as they are looking for a prompt start at 10:00hrs and are urging teams to be on time.
