Active COVID-19 cases under 350

Lowered daily COVID infections have resulted in active cases dropping under 350 in Guyana. As of Friday, 22 new positives were reported.
Deaths have remained at 1223, according to the Health Ministry’s latest dashboard.
There are five patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 22 in institutional isolation, 337 in home isolation and 12 in institutional quarantine. Since the pandemic, 543,927 tests were conducted – of which 29,012 males and 34,012 females contracted the virus.
Guyana has 342 active infections: 16 in Region One, 18 in Region Two, 15 in Region Three, 141 in Region Four, 11 in Region Five, 21 in Region Six, 19 in Region Seven, 58 in Region Eight, 40 in Region Nine and three in Region Nine.
Meanwhile, a regional breakdown of new cases shows one for Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), one for Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 24 for Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), three for Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), and one for Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
There were no increases in Regions One (Barima-Waini), Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Locally, 433,497 or 84.5 per cent of the adult population have received a first COVID vaccine dose while 330,026 or 64.3 per cent are completely immunised.
For the 12 to 17 age group, 33,661 or 46.2 per cent received a first dose and 24,373 or 33.4 per cent took both doses. In terms of booster doses, 51,925 persons have received their jabs.
Persons with comorbidities have been continuously asked to continue taking their respective medications or treatment to control their condition. The preventative measures and guidelines to protect against the virus must be adhered to since this category of person is at a greater risk if they contract COVID-19.
All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home; the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others; and the need for good hand hygiene.
