Adams proud of her achievements

…remains focused on 2020

The University of Guyana athletics team have returned from Colombia after recently participating in the University Games that was held on May 20-26. For the Leoni Adams the journey was one to remember as she copped a total of four medals, namely one gold in the triple jump, bronze in the long jump and silver medals for the 4x100m and 4×400m respectively.

Speaking with Guyana Times Sport in an exclusive interview, Adams when asked about her performance said, “It wasn’t my best performance but I’m very much satisfied with what I have achieved due to the fact the weather condition was very much challenging. It was a bit difficult trying to adapt to the cold in the short time. However, I was still able to cope and at the end of it all still being able to medal in every even that competed in. in terms of what could have been done for me to do better, I would say if the climate was a bit warmer because one the most important things for an athlete to avoid injury is to stay warm in preparation for your event and that was one of the most difficult thing for me to do with the place being very cold but, it was a good performance.”
Adams also noted to this publication that come 2020 at the next University Games she is looking forward to compete in the games but not only to medal in every event but achieve her personal best. This would allow Adams to move to another level in her athletic performance and be able to widen her career as an athlete. Even though the games are now completed the young athlete is working and training hard towards accomplishing her goals not only for 2020 but beyond that.
In closing Adams said, “I would like to thank my coaches coach Raymond Daw for bringing me to where I am and coach Mark Scott. I would also like to thank my family members for supporting me in every way, my friends, the University of Guyana Sport Department and my UG athletics team for the all the advice and support that I have achieved since I started to compete for the University.”
