AFC welcomes Govt’s publishing of all oil production data

..“It’s a step in the right direction” – Dr Adams

Although the party is known for relentlessly criticising the Government, the Alliance for Change (AFC) has commended the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for publishing all data on oil production, hailing it as “a step in the right direction”.

Dr Vincent Adams

At AFC’s press conference on Friday, the party’s member, Dr Vincent Adams, who headed the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) under the previous APNU/AFC Government, said while the oil production data is now easily accessible to the public, “we should not have to be pressuring the Government and forcing them to be doing what they are obligated to do.”
“All of that data belongs to the people, it does not belong to ExxonMobil, it does not belong to the Government. So, there is no need to be hiding and ducking information,” he added.
After reports that data on Guyana’s oil and gas production was not accessible to the public, the Natural Resources Ministry, this week, announced that oil production data can be retrieved via its Petroleum Management Programme website: https://pretroleum.gov.gy/data-visualization.
Guyana Times understands that the website, which has been active since mid-2021, contains weekly, monthly, and yearly data about the oil sector, including those related to oil production.
Information can be viewed through graphs and the data visualisation tab is updated every day.
Notably, reports indicate that there is a one-month lag in production data as the Ministry must first verify the daily reports against the final monthly reports. In addition, the website also has information about the gas-to-power project and local content.
The Petroleum Management Programme is one of three major programmes within the Ministry of Natural Resources which contributes to achieving the Ministry’s overall mission of developing, implementing, and overseeing policies for the responsible exploration, development, and utilisation of natural resources whilst ensuring the protection and conservation of the environment and advancement of the green economy.
The Petroleum Management Programme’s objective is to promote and support the exploration, development, and production of petroleum (oil and gas) resources by regulating, managing, and monitoring the industry to ensure that the resources are developed in an economically viable manner to attain an improved level of national prosperity that will provide for maximum economic benefits for all Guyanese.
