AGM working on app to monitor spillways

In coordination with this year’s Mining Week 2022 theme, “Emerging from Adversity, Transitioning to Sustainability”, hosted by Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), AGM Inc has revealed that it is working on creating an app that would monitor spillways.

With the rapid advance in technology, another forthcoming project that AGM proud of is its Auto-Monitoring System. This app, according to AGM, will be available on mobile phones.
This will be shared with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the application will allow real-time monitoring of the spillway of the mine water pond and the tailings pond.
AGM Inc’s Liaison Manager, Ragunauth Ramsaroop, presented the company’s approach to “Responsible Mining in a Safe and Sustainable Way.”
During the presentation, Ramsaroop covered the health and safety protocols/plans that AGM has implemented to sustain biodiversity and the measures that were executed to ensure the comfort, safety, and health of their employees.
Some of these are on-site medical facilities, fuming of the camp to prevent malaria, recreational activities for employees, and air-conditioned rooms for employees’ well-being.
One of the company’s environmental sustainability plans that is currently in progress is the solar energy initiative. The project will reduce energy emissions and will inevitably contribute to the global efforts that will combat climate change.
The conceptual project plan has been approved and construction is anticipated to begin this year, based on projections.
“At AGM we have rich biodiversity; the harmonious relationship with our biodiversity in itself indicates less environmental impact. We place great emphasis on ensuring that the animal and plant life surrounding our operations are not harmed,” Ramsaroop asserted.
Additionally, as part of AGM’s Corporate Social Responsibility, they have embarked on several initiatives to give back to the community. Both governmental and non-governmental organisations have benefited from the company’s donations in the past.
