Agri-Investment Forum and Expo 2022: CASA Fresh and Arapaima Logistics engage farmers to increase export of local produce
CASA Fresh and Arapaima Logistics were delighted to be part of the recently concluded Agri-Investment Forum and Exhibition at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
CASA Fresh, the marketing arm of Arapaima Logistics, conducts research to find regional and international markets for local farm-fresh produce.
It also provides an online platform to not only market these produce, but also allows for convenient purchase and ordering of goods.
The team’s Agriculture Specialist, Ramsingh Taijbally, has been building relationships with farmers in Pomeroon, Crabwood Creek, and the Linden-Soesdyke Highway to increase the volume of local produce exported to the US (United States) and other extra-regional markets.
These farm visits are also conducted to understand farmers’ production capacity and assist with further developing quality produce to meet the international market demands.
The team highlighted its services alongside hundreds of other businesses and Government agencies at the event. However, one of the significant concerns raised by protentional investors during the expo was the movement of fruits and vegetables to other parts of the world.
Arapaima and CASA Fresh intend to play a vital role in addressing this issue. With a combined 40 years of experience, the team offers a logistical international supply chain network to connect the local farm-fresh fruits and vegetables to the global market.
Several persons outside of Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago signalled their interest to the CASA fresh team to ship produce from Guyana, not only to the US and the Caricom regions but worldwide.
Only two months ago, Arapaima Logistics sent over 40,000 dry coconuts from Pomeroon farmers to buyers in Miami, Florida. Though it started with a single commodity, shortly, the team will be exporting eddoes, sweet potato, plantains, yams, ginger, and other commodities. This timely event created many opportunities for farmers, agro-processors, and other businesses in the agriculture value chain.
The Agri-Investment Forum and Expo was crucial for unlocking the potential for reducing the Caricom’s almost US$6 billion food import bill. Several Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the Government of Guyana and other Caricom members, which will pay close attention to increased food production, logistics and transport improvements, and farmlands provision. These measures are expected to reduce the Region’s food import bill and achieve food security across the region, and Arapaima Logistics is pleased with the move by the region to address these issues.
