Agricola duo remanded for armed robbery

Twenty-year-old Antonio Maraj and 24-year-old Dexter Ray were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and charged for robbery under arms on Tuesday morning.
This newspaper understands that the two men allegedly robbed Virtual Complainant (VC) Simone Beaton of one digital tablet and a quantity of gold jewellery, among other items valued a total of ,455,000, at McDoom, East Bank Demerara, on April 4, 2017.
Attorney-at-Law Stanley Moore told the court that Ray was a gold miner while Maraj was a fish vendor and they permanently resided in Agricola, Greater Georgetown.
Prosecutor Arvin Moore did not hesitate to object to bail, considering the nature of the offence and the penalty attached to such a felony. The men were refused bail accordingly and were scheduled to return to court on May 8, 2017.
