Ailing Nagamootoo for heart surgery today

…bypass scheduled at US hospital

Just days before the third anniversary of his party forming the coalition, it has been revealed that Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo will require urgent heart surgery in the United States of America.

According to a medical bulletin from Government, Nagamootoo recently undertook a routine medical examination at which point it was revealed that he had an existing cardiac-related health problem.
“Prime Minister Nagamootoo was advised to seek further medical intervention and brought forward a planned private visit to the United States. As a result of further examinations, Prime Minister Nagamootoo will undergo bypass heart surgery (today), Tuesday, February 13 at a medical institution in the United States,” a release from Government said on Monday.
The Government statement went on to express optimism for the recovery of the Prime Minister, who is being accompanied by his wife, Sita.

Overseas medical treatment
The issue of Government officials seeking treatment overseas rather than at the Georgetown Public Hospital or even local private hospitals has a long and contentious history.
When in the Opposition, the coalition parties had heavily criticised members of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for seeking medical treatment overseas, instead of utilising the national facilities.
However, Government Ministers have been flying to Ireland and other overseas territories for medical treatment.
It was further disclosed that a health insurance policy was being prepared for Government officials.
