Home News Air pistol used in supermarket robbery at Chatgeau Margot
The weapon that was left behind by one of two bandits who pounced on an East Coast Demerara supermarket Tuesday evening was discovered to be an air gun.
This is according to Police Divisional Commander Calvin Brutus, who explained to Guyana Times that the discovery was made upon examination of the weapon that was retrieved from the scene.
“It looks real, but it’s actually an air pistol that uses round balls,” the Commander said.
About 19:40h on Tuesday, two masked bandits, one of whom was armed with the weapon, stormed into the GST Supermarket, located at Chateau Margot, and held the proprietor and customers at gunpoint.
A struggle subsequently ensued between the proprietor and the armed bandit, during which the businessman managed to unmask the perpetrator after throwing him to the floor. At the time also, the weapon fell from the assailant’s hand.
Nevertheless, the perpetrator managed to free himself and escaped with a cellular phone from one of the customers. He and his accomplice, who was keeping guard at the door, then jumped into a silver motor car, which had no number plate attached, and escaped in an eastern direction.
No arrests have been made and according to Commander Brutus, investigators were given a description of the suspect who was unmasked. He noted that it was still difficult to identify the bandit just from his physical features.
