A 36-year-old James and Garnett Streets, Albouystown, Georgetown businessman was on Saturday morning taken into custody after he was found with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Based on reports received, the .9mm Taurus pistol and 16 live rounds of matching ammunition were discovered resting on the cover of a barrel in the businessman’s bedroom.
Ranks of A Division reportedly swooped down on the house after they received information that the businessman was brandishing a firearm when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
However, after the discovery, the businessman was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested. He was taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station where charges were instituted. The firearm and ammunition were lodged as Police continue their investigations.
On Thursday, during an eradication exercise at DeVeldt village, Berbice River, Police ranks discovered several firearms and a quantity of ammunition concealed under the floorboards of a building.
The firearms include one double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun, one 20-gauge shotgun, one .32 shotgun, two OPS air guns along with nine 12-gauge, one 20-gauge and five .32 cartridges. No arrests were made during the operation.
