A 27-year-old man met his demise on Monday afternoon when he and a group of friends went swimming by the Meadowbrook canal.
The dead man has been identified as Ryan Jones, a scrap metal dealer who resided at Lot 68 Barr Street, Albouystown.
According to information received, the young man went with a group of five friends to swim by the popular canal.
Guyana Times understands that he made a plunge into canal and when he resurfaced, some minutes after his friends noticed that he was not breathing.
He was immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A Division Commander Clifton Hicken told this publication that there is no suspicion of foul play since there were no marks of violence about his body.
However, he said that Police will await the results of the post-mortem examination for confirmation.
