Cornell DeSantos was remained on Wednesday for allegedly being in possession of 65 grams of cannabis (ganja) for trafficking purposes on October 21, 2017 at Albouystown, Georgetown.
The defendant had denied any knowledge of the charge when he was brought before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Wednesday morning and, instead, accused the Police of fabricating the allegation.
DeSantos unsuccessfully pleaded for bail to be granted in his favour on the basis that he was the sole breadwinner for his family and was expecting a child soon.
Magistrate Azore refused bail given the amount of narcotics involved and the fact no special reasons were advanced.
Prosecutor Simone Payne said that the defendant was observed by one Corporal Eastman with a bulky black bag and acting in a suspicious manner. A search conducted on his person revealed the suspected narcotics in small ziplock bags.
He will remain incarcerated until the next court date, which is November 8, 2017.
