Minister within the Natural Resources Ministry Simona Broomes on Friday presented five outstanding National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) 2017 performers of the Albouystown/Charlestown communities with monetary donations, while urging them to continue on the challenging path to success.
“When school reopens in September, how you looked at it before, I want you to change that in your mind knowing that you are now shaping your country for the future,” Minister Broomes encouraged.

Securing a place at Bishop’s High School was Sarah Singh who deemed the Minister’s generosity as “unexpected” but “exciting” when she spoke to the Department of Public Information (DPI).
The young aspiring pharmacist highlighted the challenges faced during her school year, having had to traverse the poor roads to get to school. Nevertheless, the student is grateful for her family’s support.

“It’s really exciting when you have your whole family around you and you still get the education you deserve,” she said.
Twelve-year-old Aidan Allicock who will be heading to Queens College in September, said he felt “very enlightened and very privileged” by the Minister’s gesture.
An ambitious paediatrician, Walanda Wilson, 12, who secured a spot at the Queen’s College echoed the sentiments of her colleagues and was confident that the Minister’s donation will be of much significance and assistance during the new school year.
“I’m glad, very, very happy… I don’t know what books I have to get yet but I’m sure it will help,” Wilson said.
Demetrius Drup and Daniel Robertson of Albouystown gushed at having their wish of personally meeting a Minister fulfilled. “(I am) excited because I got to meet a Minister which is what I wanted. I wanted to meet someone in politics,” 11-year-old Drup said.
“I feel very happy because I got to meet the Minister and she congratulated me,” were the words of an anxious Robertson. The Minister was not partial in her generosity as she also donated haversacks to other children in the Albouystown/Charlestown community.
