Albouystown woman busted for attempting to smuggle cannabis into Lusignan prison
A woman was caught red-handed and handed over to the police while attempting to smuggle a quantity of cannabis for an inmate at the Lusignan Prison.
Patrica Blackman of King Edward’s Street, Alboystown, Georgetown was arrested on Monday after she was found with a quantity of cannabis while at the East Coast of Demerara correctional facility. Authorities found the drugs, amounting to 15 grams.
According to the information received, Prison officers discovered 15 grams of cannabis during a thorough search of her belongings upon arrival at the checking point of the prison location.
The marijuana was concealed in plastic straws and was then placed in several tubes of toothpaste. Following the discovery, the woman was detained and subsequently handed over to the police for further interrogation.
“During her detention, the police will delve into the criminal network she may be connected to. She remains in custody, pending charges”, the release stated.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Prison Service called on civilians to recognise the dangers at which they place themselves, society, inmates, and officers by engaging in the trade of contraband within the walls of the prison.
“The GPS also noted that smuggling contraband into a correctional facility is an offence that has serious consequences”, they said.
