Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed scored an unbeaten fifty and took two for 62 to help Guyana trounce the Leeward Islands by 63 runs on the final day of their Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional U-19 tournament in St Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday.
Playing at the Verchilds Cricket Ground, Guyana started day three with a lead of 221, before declaring on 172 for 6 in 54 overs, with Alex Algoo giving support with 36 to set the Islanders a target of 293.
The home side folded to 229 all out, as the left-arm spinner led the way with 4 for 30 while off-spinner Richie Looknaught chipped in with 3 for 58.
On day 2, bowling his medium pace, Ali-Mohamed collected 5-11 from 13 overs to spearhead Guyana’s attack as Leewards Islands folded for a paltry 100 all-out off 48.2 overs in their first innings. Kevin Sinclair with 3-33 supported Ali-Mohammed with his part-time off-spin.
Guyana will now play Trinidad and Tobago on Friday in their second-round match.
