‘All hands on deck’ to turn tide of neglect, irresponsible leadership – Ali

As neglect continues under the A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance for Change (APNU/AFC) coalition with respect to creative initiatives to help combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), Dr Irfaan Ali has detailed his plan to change this national scenario.

One such plan is the free distribution of face masks and other essential items to citizens throughout the length and breadth of Guyana in an effort to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This aspect has already commenced with thousands of face masks being distributed on a daily basis.
Additionally, Ali stated that the PPP/C has a plan, which will be implemented from day one when they assume office as it is important that all Guyanese, regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation, are protected against the deadly virus. He pointed out too that the country’s economic and financial industry is currently in limbo, which is cause for serious worry.
“The economic and financial situation is becoming a serious worry in our country and from what we are seeing on the ground, it is almost at breaking point. I am not exaggerating when I say to you that many of our countrymen, women, and children are in hunger. We will be out there with responsible leadership and I assure all Guyanese we have a plan that is implementable from day one when we assume office,” the Presidential Candidate posited.

Further, Ali stated that the country needs “all hands on deck to turn the tide of neglect, irresponsible leadership and lack of care for Guyana and Guyanese. We must stop the hostage of the Guyanese people and Guyana by a few who are obsessed with hanging on to power albeit illegally.”
Recognising that dealing with the deadly coronavirus is not an easy task, Ali explained that there needs to be “a clear vision, inclusive decision-making, proactive leadership, trust among all players, a democratic environment and ownership of the development process by all Guyanese.”
To this end, the Presidential Candidate noted that every Guyanese is paramount to him and as such, he is ready to work for the good of all Guyanese to ensure that they are protected.
“As your President, I am ready to work with everyone in the interest of Guyana. There is no turning back, we are moving forward with a national agenda. The health, welfare, security, and sanity of every Guyanese are paramount for me, and I am sure every right-thinking Guyanese.”
In an effort to play its part in the fight against the novel coronavirus, the PPP/C has established a National COVID-19 Multi-stakeholders’ Response Forum.
