The youth arm of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, the Essequibo Dharmic Nawjawan and the Swarswatti Dance Academy, are making sure that all arrangements are in place for the hosting of “Naatak Kee ek Sham” – an evening of dance and drama.
The event is set for Saturday in the compound of the Anna Regina Mandir commencing at 19:00h. Patrons are expected to be treated to a night of cultural explosion and entertainment to the highest standard.
Currently the cast is rehearsing and are ready to thrill the audience with their vocals, dance routines, acting and other skills. The dancers will also be performing katak dances, choreographed by Sursattie Singh.
They will be performing to songs such as “Dum Dum”, “Dhannashree” and “Jagveera Premika”.
The theatrical feature will be based on a story which will see two best friends seeking a scholarship to go to India to study. In the end, only one was offered that scholarship but because of the faith and friendship they had in each other, they managed to get one more scholarship and as such both friends were able to live their dreams.
The storyline is portrayed by Avaani and Maya. Admission to the show will cost $1000 and all proceedings will go towards the renovation of the Anna Regina Kendra which will in the future serve as a hub for cultural activities.
