A Berbice man accused of stealing a Police Officer’s car was granted ,000 bail by city Magistrate Dylan Bess.
Kamesh Bowen, 20, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 25, 2016, at Georgetown, he stole one motor car valued $1,100,000, property of Andy Beckam.
Bowen told the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts he found the car with the key in the ignition and decided to enter it. He also said he thought the vehicle was ‘old’ and unused, since it was rare for people in Guyana to leave their car in such a manner.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the man had no fixed place of abode and, as such, he may pose a flight risk.
Magistrate Bess, however, took into consideration Bowen’s not guilty plea and granted him bail after he told the Court he originally came from Berbice and provided the Court with his home address.
The matter will continue on June 15.
