Alleged iPhone thief granted $100,000 bail

A man accused of snatching an iPhone appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer to the charge on Wednesday.
Jonathon Mohammed, 26, of La Penitence, Georgetown, denied that he stole the phone valued 0,000 from Rupert Singh at Middle Road, La Penitence, on August 17.
According to Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was walking along the public road in La penitence when he was approached by two men. The other perpetrator, who is yet to be arrested, reportedly formed a conversation with him.
However, Mohammed used the opportunity to sneak up and grab the phone after which both men made good there escape, the Prosecutor said.
The matter was reported and the defendant was subsequently arrested and charged with the offence.
Gonsalves had no objections to bail being granted. The defendant was released on $100,000 bail. The case will continue on September 11.
