Alleged lover confesses to killing Berbice businessman

A 22-year-old labourer of Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice has been arrested in connection with, and later confessed to, the murder of 53-year-old businessman Vickram Seubarran of No 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, whose body was found in the bottom storey of his two-storey home with a stab wound to his back.

Police have said the suspect was arrested after detectives received information that he would frequent the victim’s business place. The suspect, in his confession, told investigators that he and the victim had started an intimate relationship about a month ago, and he would visit the victim’s house frequently.
However, on Monday last, he said, he was invited over by Seubarran, and upon his arrival, both he and Seubarran began imbibing alcohol.
He confessed that as he was about to leave, the victim and him had an argument over their sexual relations As such, an argument ensued, and it later led to a scuffle. The suspect told detectives that, in the heat of the moment, he went into the kitchen and took a knife and stabbed the victim thrice about his body. He said he then left the man’s home.
Guyana Times has been informed that after the incident, Seubarran’s relatives surmised that the suspect might have committed the act, and they informed the Police. The suspect was taken to the scene, where he gave detectives a summary of what occurred. It was reported that he also showed the officers the area where he dumped the handle of the murder weapon. The area was scoured, but the handle was not recovered.
The dead man’s brother, Dean Seubaran, told the media that he had last seen him on Sunday night. He said he usually makes checks on his brother, and upon doing so on Monday at about 06:00h, he discovered his brother’s lifeless body in a pool of blood in the kitchen area of his home. He said that after making the discovery, he immediately contacted the Police, and the body was removed and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. (G9)
