Allicock looking to make an impact at World Boxing Championships
Guyanese Boxer Keevin Allicock is currently capitalizing on the opportunity of a lifetime as he prepares to compete in the World Boxing Championships.
The Guyanese and Caribbean Bantamweight champion ‘Lightning’ Allicock is currently in Yekaterinburg, Russia to participate in his first World Boxing Championship.
He departed Guyanese shores on Saturday and will be moved up to the featherweight division given that the bantamweight category has been left out of the World Championships.
The Guyanese boxer will enter the ring for his first bout on Wednesday against Finland’s Arsian Khataev.
Speaking on the decision to have Allicock participate in the World Boxing Championships, Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) President Steve Ninvalle stated that his association worked tirelessly in order to get the extremely talented young boxer to the championships.
“The World Championship is only second to the Olympics and it is my commitment to keep exposing not only Mr. Allicock but all of our boxers to the highest level of training and competition,” Ninvalle said.
Guyana last appeared at the World Championship back in 2013 in Kazakhstan with Dennis Thomas and Imran Khan flying the Golden Arrowhead.
In addition to Allicock participation, recently certified International Technical Officer (ITO) Elton Chase is also at the World Championship. Chase is the first Guyanese to have achieved an ITO status.
