Allicock to miss out on CAC Games due to injury

Keevin Allicock will miss out on this year’s CAC Games

Guyana’s boxing team for the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games will miss out on the services of Olympian Keevin Allicock, after he picked up a foot injury prior to his departure for the Games.
The Games are set for June 23 to July 8 in El Salvador, with the pugilists slated to compete from June 23 to June 28.
Following the injury sustained by Allicock in training on Sunday, the four-member Guyanese boxing team are now down to three.
Guyana will now be represented by Desmond Amsterdam, Emanuel Pompey and Joel Williamson accompanied by officials Terrence Poole and Lennox Daniels.
The development has been labelled as unfortunate by Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) President Steve Ninvalle.
“Well, we’re a bit disappointed that Mr Allicock could not have made the trip to the CAC Games. We had high expectations that he would’ve medalled if he went to the Games,” the GBA President shared.
Ninvalle further stated, “And it’s a disappointment for all of us, for Guyana not just the boxing fraternity but for Guyana, because I felt, we were more or less assured of a medal when he would’ve entered the ring. Nevertheless, we would’ve had our Sportsman of the Year, Mr Desmond Amsterdam, who I think is also assured of a medal once he performs to his true potential.”
Team Guyana comprise 69 persons – 52 athletes, 15 officials, and two medical staff. The athletes will compete in 10 disciplines: archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and fencing.
