With Guyana set to host the local leg of the biggest party in sport, main sponsor of the Guyana Amazon Warriors – GTT – on Tuesday took the Hero CPL craze to a Plaisance Orphanage, as the full Warriors’ squad joined in on a visit to the institution.
This is after being home for just about one day, but nevertheless the Guyanese team took time off from their hectic schedule to visit the St. John’s Bosco Orphanage in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

During their time at the institution, scores of young enthusiasts attached to the Boys Home were given the opportunity to interact with not only local players but international cricketers as well, as they took the fields for a short game of “bat and ball.”
At the end of their interactions, the students present at the meet and greet were awarded with tickets to witness the Warriors in action as they take to the Providence National Stadium for the CPL playoffs in Guyana, which will commence on Thursday.

Allision Parker, Public Relations Officer of GTT was present at the event and indicated that her company is proud to be organisers of what now stands as an unforgettable experience for both the students and players. At the same time, Parker pointed out what turned their attention to the St. John’s Bosco Orphange.
On that note she posited, “This is something I’m sure they will remember the rest of their lives and we are indeed happy to be here.”
Continuation on GTT’s contribution to the orphanage through this initiative, the PRO further highlighted that, “There will be 25 of them at the game. I understand that the school has 40 students but 25 of them will be at the games because 25 are in residence right now.” This is compliment of GTT.
Meanwhile, one of the star players of the local squad, Sohail Tanveer, thanked GTT for organising such a memorable encounter and expressed delight on his team’s behalf for inviting the Amazon Warriors to participate in the visit to the orphanage.
Moreover, the left arm pace bowler hailed the St. John’s Bosco Orphanage for their great work in catering for the lesser fortunate Guyanese youth and extended well wishes to the boys attached to the home.
“We are very thankful to GTT for organising such a beautiful event. We all enjoyed out time here with the kids,” relayed the Pakistani cricketer.
Tanveer went on to say that, “It’s a great organisation for the orphan kids and I’m really happy to be a part of this event.”
Bursting with excitement from his encounter with the Guyana Amazon Warriors was a student of the home, who conveyed his appreciation to GTT and the local team for the time spent at the institution. The young man also thanked the collaborating parties for affording them the opportunity to be a part of the games.
The St. John’s Bosco Orphanage is currently the home of 42 boys between the ages of 5-15 and has, over the years, seen the support of local phone company, GTT.
This partnership between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and GTT is one in a line of activities which will be undertaken by the local squad while on home turf for this year’s CPL tournament.
The students of the St. John’s Bosco Orphanage will be joining the games on Saturday, as the Guyana Warriors face off against their longstanding rivals, the Trinbago Knight Riders, in what promises to be a heated showdown.
