AmCham Guyana, T&T seeking stronger trade, investment ties

…as Chambers’ Presidents host 1st meeting

In a bid for increased trade and investment ties, the Presidents of the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AmCham T&T) and AmCham Guyana have started holding meetings to discuss strengthened collaboration.

AmCham Guyana President Devindra Kissoon and AmCham T&T President Toni Sirju-Ramnarine

AmCham Guyana President Devindra Kissoon and AmCham T&T President Toni Sirju-Ramnarine recently met at the Hyatt Hotel in Trinidad, where they discussed increased collaboration. It was the first formal meeting between the two.
The meeting follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations on August 6, 2021 in Georgetown which laid the framework for collaboration. The MoU also outlined the respective roles and responsibilities of both organisations in working to increase collaboration between members.
During the meeting, Kissoon expressed appreciation for AmCham T&T for extending an invitation to the membership of AmCham Guyana to attend the 25th Annual Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Conference, which was held virtually.
Kissoon welcomed the support from AmCham T&T.
“AmCham Guyana is most grateful for the support given by AmCham T&T, President Sirju-Ramnarine has repeatedly and sincerely extended a warm welcome to our newly-formed Chamber, and we in AmCham Guyana are most excited to reciprocate. We reaffirm our commitment to support our respective members in strengthening American commercial business interests in both Guyana and Trinidad,” Kissoon said.
Meanwhile, Sirju-Ramnarine spoke of the potential for stronger ties between the two Chambers, noting that this was needed with the impact from COVID-19 pandemic on businesses. According to her, she looks forward to this increased collaboration over the next few months.
“We are very delighted to build on the partnership with our colleagues at AmCham Guyana. I strongly believe that our organisations can find beneficial partnerships around issues related to increasing trade and investment, strengthening the rule of law and improving the ease of doing business to create more high-value jobs in our respective nations,” she said.
“We are very happy to continue our relationship with AmCham Guyana through its second President, very much aware of the impact on local business from the pandemic. Moving forward and working collaboratively will ensure that our organisations are providing much-needed advocacy and leadership on issues of national and regional importance through the sharing of expertise, contacts, and other resources,” she added.
AmCham T&T and AmCham Guyana are members of the American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America and the Caribbean (AACCLA), which are independent, non-profit business organisations based in 28 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Their primary objective is to promote trade and investment between their countries and the United States. Collectively, AmChams represent over 20,000 US and local companies and executives managing the bulk of US investments in the Region. As members of AACCLA, AmChams are affiliated with the US Chamber of Commerce, the largest business federation in the world. (G3)
