Home News AMCHAM Guyana, US Embassy spread Christmas cheer to 150 children
The American Chamber of Commerce of Guyana and the US Embassy in Georgetown have teamed up to spread holiday cheer to several orphanages across the country.
In keeping with the true spirit of the holiday season, children at several orphanages were targeted during the drive, amounting to about 150 children aged two to 18.
This year’s outreach was extended to include children outside of Georgetown. Visits were made to a Sanctuary Children’s Home, Hauraruni International Missionary Girls Home, St Joseph Bosco Orphanage, Canaan Full Gospel Children’s Home, Bal Nivas Shelter, and Camal Home for Battered Women and Homeless Children.
The children swayed to Christmas carols and received toys, treats, books, pizza and other items donated by AmCham members. They eagerly gathered around Ambassador Sarah-Ann Lynch and the Deputy Chief of Mission Mark Cullinane as they read “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, a classic Christmas story.
The Ambassador shared, “The act of giving back represents all that the holiday season represents, and I was happy to participate in a Guyanese-led effort.”
AmCham’s President Devindra Kissoon expressed his gratitude to the membership for their generous donations; to AmCham’s executive and board members for their participation and support; and to Ambassador Lynch and all at the U.S. Embassy for their continued guidance and patronage.
This is the third year that AmCham, in collaboration with the U.S Embassy in Georgetown, has organised the Christmas outreach. This year’s sponsors included GTT, Keen360 Inc, Corum Restaurant Group Incorporated, Buy N Sell Realty Incorporated, IBIS Construction Equipment Sales and Rentals Incorporated, Pinnacle Business Services Incorporated, Massy Distribution Guyana, SOL Guyana Incorporated, Queens Atlantic Investment Incorporated, Hess Corporation, Vitality Accounting and Consultancy Incorporated, Fix-It Hardware, Black and Decker, Crane Worldwide Logistics Guyana Incorporated, Praetorian Executive Protection Services Incorporated, Technip FMC Guyana, and Excel Guyana Incorporated.
