Amelia’s Ward man remanded for supermarket robbery

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, 27-year-old Richard Caesar, a labourer, of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) was charged for armed robbery.

It is alleged that on August 27, at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, while being armed with a gun, he robbed the Xiang Wang Supermarket of an iPhone 6S valued at $80,000, and $950,000 in cash.
The cash and phone are the property of Guan Xiang, the owner of the supermarket. The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was charged contrary to Section 222 (c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act. Caesar was remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate. The case continues on October 25 at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
Two other men from Linden- 19-year-old Shamar Prince of Self-Help Scheme, Amelia’s Ward, and Schimell Doris, 23, of 1692 Central Amelia’s Ward- were earlier charged with robbing the supermarket.
Doris was charged along with Prince for conspiracy to commit an armed robbery while Prince was charged with robbery under-arms at the supermarket.
