An evening of tributes to “The Greatest” planned for tomorrow

The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GBA) and McNeal Enterprise announced that they have teamed up to organize an evening of tribute to one of the best know figures of the 20th Century, Muhammad Ali.

At the simple press briefing held on Thursday in Georgetown, Odinga Lumumba of Mc Neal Enterprise expressed disappointment that no organization was doing a tribute to the great man. He noted that Ali, who twice visited Guyana, motivated thousands of Guyanese, made an impact on our boxers and inspired many young people. He described Ali as a giant, who created the atmosphere for the fight against oppression, “he was not only a boxer but a teacher and a leader” were also the words of Lumumba.

President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle who was in full support of the event, described it as fitting and timely and thanked McNeal Enterprise for getting onboard with the event at such a short time. Ninvalle said, “The broad expanse of the people we have invited would be able to tangibly give an outlook at what Muhammad Ali actually was.”

The organizers said that in addition to the event being opened to the general public, they have invited several notable Guyanese, including doctors, students and leaders to give tributes to the late great Muhammad Ali.

The event that will also have a viewing of some of Ali’s greatest fights is scheduled for 17:00 Hrs tomorrow, Sunday June 12 at the Impeccable Banquet Hall, Brickdam Georgetown.
