Young Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club all-rounder Kevlon Anderson has surprisingly been presented with cricketing gear comprising of a CA bat, thigh pad, batting gloves, batting pads, full spikes boots and a cricketer’s bag.
This gift came from the Lower Corentyne Secondary Schools (LCSS) Committee of New York USA, and it is in recognition of his tremendous talent and outstanding performances in the recently concluded National Schools Cricket Championships.
The LCSS Committee is made up of former students of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice, and among its very active members are such dedicated and industrious individuals as Howard and Radha Bernstein, Riaz Bacchus, Shirley Bissoondial, Eno Indrani Chabinauth, Cecelia Vasconcellos, Ameer Gulmohamad, Sommie Jewan and Chris Lachman.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Anil Beharry, former Berbice senior all-rounder, speaking on behalf of the LCSS Committee, said that august body is honoured to support the young and upcoming cricketer Kevlon Anderson with the gear, and to be part of his success.
He disclosed that members of the LCSS Committee have been following developments in the National Schools Cricket Tournament 2016/2017, and were elated that their former high school had won the tournament for the first time. The members were impressed with Anderson’s captaincy and his personal contribution towards the team’s success, hence they were motivated to assist this cricketing stalwart in the making.
Born in October 2000, this dedicated national junior cricketer joined the RHTY&SC at the tender age of 10, and has represented the club at all levels, even playing in the GCB National Franchise Three Day Cricket Competition. He has already represented Guyana at the Under-15 and Under-17 levels, and has so far scored 16 centuries and 23 half-centuries in his short career. He is also a very useful spinner.
The committee is very vibrant and is involved in many fundraising events, with proceeds being donated to several projects at the school, to benefit the students and teachers.
Anderson has thanked the LCSS NY Committee for the fine gesture in donating the gear to him, and has promised to continue working hard to succeed to a level that would make everyone proud.
Beharry, himself a former student of the school, has wished Anderson every success in the future, and has cautioned him to care the gear and make full use of them. He also strongly encouraged Anderson to keep his feet proverbially on the ground, and to stay humble, disciplined and committed.
