Andrews Supermarket on board with Jefford Track and Field Classic X
Andrews Supermarket is the latest entity to join a list of reputable sponsors to offer support for the upcoming Jefford Track and Field Classic X, scheduled for Sunday August 11 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.

The support from Andrews Supermarket will sponsor the Female Javelin event. Each event carries a total purse of $80,000, with the winner carrying home $40,000, second place $25,000 and third place $15,000 along with memorabilia medals.
A total of $2 million will be handed out directly to the athletes in Linden. In addition, the Champion Male and Female athletes will benefit from $25,000 worth in Under Armour sports gear and $25,000 cash, along with trophies. The top three finishers in the schoolboys’ and in the schoolgirls’ 150m will take home hampers and medals.
As it relates to patrons, 10 gate prizes will be up for grabs.
Founder of the Classic, Edison Jefford, indicated that there will be something for everyone at the event this year. He said he would be sticking to the prize structure, since he has already secured the athletes’ prize monies. He said the athletes will collect their prizes immediately after each event.
This track-and-field event has had participation from several of Guyana’s most popular athletes since 2010. Among those are Aliann Pompey, competing for the first time in Guyana at the Second Edition in 2011, and Marian Burnett a year later. Every notable Guyanese athlete has competed at the Classic, with most holding meet records, including Brenessa Thompson and Winston George.
This meet is coordinated in accordance with International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules, and is sanctioned by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).
The meet’s major sponsors this year are: ExxonMobil; ANSA McAL Trading Ltd, under the Rush Energy Drink; I-Cool Water, Lucozade, Heineken, Magnum Tonic Wine brands; National Sports Commission; DeSinco Trading Ltd, under their Swiss Brands; and Let’s Bet Sports.
