Mayor of the town of Anna Regina, Rajendra Prabhulall, was re-elected on Wednesday in the boardroom of the Anna Regina Town Council, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). The Deputy Mayor, Rudolph Williams, was also re-elected.
Prabhulall said that he is very much thankful to the councillors for having the confidence in him and giving him a second term as Mayor of the township.
The Mayor said that his first term in office was very challenging. He said that there are many issues and plans that have to be addressed but financial constraints have posed as his biggest challenge since his election.
At present, the Council is cash-strapped and employees have not been paid their November salaries.
The Mayor said that the Council has millions of dollars outstanding in rates and taxes but persons are not paying. During brief remarks following his re-election, he called on defaulters to pay up their taxes. This, he said, will enable the Council to provide reliable service to its people.
