scores of roadside vendors who operate in the vicinity of the Anna Regina old market in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have expressed disgust over the current garbage pile-up. When the vendors turned out on Wednesday, they were greeted by a huge stockpile of garbage.
According to vendors, the “unhealthy” environment is not conducive for them to operate in and they are calling on the Anna Regina Town Council to act promptly in removing the humongous amount of garbage.
During a visit to the site, this publication observed stray animals spreading the garbage further into the market; the festering pile of waste is also giving off an obnoxious odour which is unhealthy for vendors and consumers to operate in.
The garbage pile is located along the main entrance to Lake Mainstay Resort, where tourists and visitors traverse on their way to the popular tourist site.
According to vendors, the garbage is usually cleaned by the Anna Regina Town Council workers.
When this publication contacted the Town Council, an officer assured that the garbage situation will be under control before New Year.
