Annandale Secondary have cemented their dominance in the ongoing Under-18 Guyoil/ Tradewind Tankers tournament with a comfortable win over Dolphin Secondary.
Annandale, who are known for their attacking style and well-crafted play, opted for a more laidback approach in their encounter against Dolphin, which unsurprisingly bore the regular results.
With their game reduced to 20 minutes per half, the Annandale side were patient with getting the scorecard ticking. Colin Hendricks was the first striker to hit the back of the net in the 10th minute. He was followed by Omari Glasgow, who put a
goal to his name in the 16th. Within the blink of an eye, the ball was once again sitting in the net, as Captain of the East Coast team, Jamar Harrigon contributed to the tally in the 17th minute.
The second half of the game saw Dolphin putting up a fight, as they often battled to get possession of the ball. However, the Dolphin side faltered in their striking as the young players failed to capitalise on blatant chances at the goal. Annandale were unbothered by Dolphin’s newfound grit and continued to score. Hendricks returned in the 35th minute for his second goal of the game and two minutes later,
Jermaine Harrigon joined the party when he connected his long ball with the net. The time expired with the score on 5-0 in Annandale’s favour.
The second game of the evening would have been an entertaining one featuring Lodge Secondary and St Rose’s High. The Lodge boys arrived early and were pumped and ready for their game; however, St Rose’s failed to show which afforded Lodge a walkover.
This result means that the stiff battle for the top of the table will be temporarily won by Annandale, who now surpass Lodge Secondary on goal difference. With the ninth round looming on the horizon, this may change, but only time can tell.
