Annual Burnham Memorial Cycle Race pedals off on Sunday

The Annual Burnham Memorial Road Race, sponsored by the Burnham Foundation and organised through the Flying Stars Cycle Club, has been approved for this Sunday, February 20, 2022.

Top riders will battle for supremacy on Sunday

The race will pedal off at 14:00h (2pm) from Carifesta Avenue (start), and travel to Belfield, ECD before returning to Carifesta Avenue for the finish. This exciting event would feature the Open category, and the top six finishers would each be awarded. The top three juniors, top four veterans under-50 and top three veterans over-50 would likewise be awarded.

A total of five sprint prizes would be up for grabs in this fast-paced, nerve-tingling race. Cyclists who desire to participate in this weekend’s event can register at Sean Chin Chan’s Cycling Shop. For further information, kindly contact Mr. Howard on 649-1162.
In the 2021 race, Marcus Keiler stormed to victory in one hour, 12 minutes. Keiler finished ahead of Shotgun Britton John, who placed second, Alex Mendes(third); Christopher Griffith (fourth); Marlon Williams (fifth) and Jaikarran Sookhai (sixth). In the veterans’ category, Mendes rode in first while Sookhai claimed second. Lyn Murray and Warren McKay came in third and fourth respectively. Alex Leung was the top junior cyclist, while Aaron Newton came in second.
The Burnham Memorial race will mark the second race of the 2022 season. In the first race of the season, Kemuel Moses had a grand return to cycling when he reigned supreme in the Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycling Club-organised race. Alexander Leung, Clavicia Spencer, Paul Chooweenam, and Raymond Newton also emerged as winners of the various categories on Sunday last.
