Annual Republic Cup softball tournament: Keen rivalry between Regal Legends, Mike’s Wellman expected tomorrow

The annual Republic Cup softball tournament organised by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Incorporated (GSCL) would commence this Sunday, February 27, at the Togetherness Park at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown with Regal Legends (Over-50s) battling longtime rivals Mike’s Wellman for top honours.
Over the years that these two teams have been locked in keen rivalry, Regal holds the edge, but on this occasion, it will not be a walk in the park for that team. Mike’s Wellman have been showing good form of recent, and would be the team to beat, with the likes of Lloyd Ruplall, Lakerman ‘Mikey’ Singh, and Wayne Jones returning good performances.

On the other hand, traditional powerhouse Regal Legends would depend on David Harper, Parsram ‘Pacer’ Persaud, Mahendra Hardyal, Rudolph ‘Gussy’ Baker, Eion ‘Rapper’ Abel, and Laurie ‘Tony’ Singh to add another trophy to their collection.

The Regal Legends-Mike’s Wellman clash will be the second game of a double- header, with Regal Masters (Over-40s) taking on a Select XI from 10:00hrs in the day’s curtain-raiser.

Regal Masters’ lineup would include Chien Gittens, Mahendra ‘Bobby’ Parasnauth, Patrick Rooplall, Mohamed Ayume, Samuel Kingston, Ricky Roopnarine and Lakhram Roopnarine.
As has been the norm over the years, this tournament would be used as useful preparation for local players heading to the annual Florida Cup mega softball tournament in the Sunshine State of the United States of America, which would be played from March 31 to April 2 this year.
Meanwhile, tickets for the annual fundraising takeaway Bar-B-Que, organised by the Regal cricket teams to aid in their participation for the Florida Cup, would be on sale from any player at $1,500 each.
