A call from an unknown person led ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to a man who allegedly committed a daring robbery at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Ranks at Beterverwagting Police Station, ECD, said the anonymous caller reported that a robbery was executed at Lee’s Supermarket, Mon Repos, ECD, by three suspects dressed in all-over black, including black hoodies. The caller added that the men subsequently made good their escape on three black bicycles.
Further information led Police to a street in Mon Repos, North, where a male who was wearing a black hoodie and dressed in black was seen on the street in an unconscious state.
He was lying next to a damaged black bicycle.
The male, who had no external injuries, was picked up and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where the victim identified him to be one of the individuals that robbed her and others in the supermarket.
The sum of $21,500 was found in his possession.
He was then escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is presently seeking medical attention while under Police guard.
Investigations are ongoing.
About a month ago, two ex-Police officers were arrested after they executed a daring robbery at the GST supermarket that is located at Success Railway Embankment, ECD.
It was reported that a 20-year-old security guard was approached by the two suspects and one of them identified himself as a Police Officer and requested to check his firearm.
The security officer reportedly complied and upon handing over the 9mm pistol which contained five live rounds of ammunition, he was held at gunpoint.
One of the suspects took the security officer at the back of the supermarket and placed a knife to his neck while his accomplice relieved a 46-year-old businesswoman of an undisclosed sum of cash.
After committing the robbery, they escaped in a red Toyota Spacio motor car bearing registration number PXX 8809.
They were later captured and charged. (G9)
