Another (green) brick…

…in PNC dictatorship
Everyday, comes another PNC-government action that’s another brick in the edifice of its dictatorship over Guyana. Granger promised he’d fulfil the legacy of Burnham, but from the way he’s going, he’s going to surpass his hero in record time. After all, Burnham at least worked along with its junior partner-in-crime for 4 years…while Granger simply flattened the AFC from day 1!!
Your Eyewitness has earlier analysed Granger’s total disregard for the Rule of Law; the Separation of powers; freedom of the press; the sanctity of individual rights; increased military forces and strategic embedding of ex-GDF officers like political commissars in every government department that show how far the edifice has gone up. But now Granger has literally decided to fly the PNC colour over that edifice on the tallest flagpole in the land– showing he feels he has destroyed the democratic ramparts and can do very well whatever he pleases.
Folks didn’t take your Eyewitness seriously (they don’t realise that all skin-teeth na joke!) when he asked that Guyanese draw a line when Granger painted the Presidential Buildings and State House in PNC green. They asked, what’s in a colour?? Plenty when it’s the PNC colour on symbol of the country’s state buildings. As the government of the day, the PNC’s only the custodian of those buildings.
But no one protested vehemently enough and now Granger’s changed the green in our NATIONAL FLAG into the PNC green. Can you believe this? Well you’d better!! Dear Readers, this is the time for all good men (and all good women and all the intermediate permutations and combinations of genders) to rally around our original Golden Arrowhead. The green in our flag represents our agriculture and forests – not the bitter bile of the PNC!
What’s a flag, dear reader?? Simply, it symbolise the NATION’S character. Do we really want our characters to be defined as “PNC”?? This is the party that rigged elections for over two decades; destroyed the economy; made us the second poorest nation in the hemisphere; killed its political opponents – including Walter Rodney. Is this us?
But as we started out, this “flying the PNC colour” summarises army man Granger’s training that impels him to “plant the flag” on territory that’s now conquered. Remember that iconic picture of US soldiers pushing up that flagpole with the American flag at Iwo Jima – signalling to the Japan that the US had reconquered the Pacific? Well, Granger and his coterie of Army buddies have just run up the PNC’s flag to signal to the world, Guyana’s once again their stomping grounds.
And believe this Eyewitness: there will be a whole lotta stomping going on soon!

…against the Judiciary
Your Eyewitness had also raised up his arms to the sky- like Jeremiah of old – to warn against AG Basil Williams’ and Granger’s tag-team assault against the Judiciary represented by the Chief Justice. In vain. We’ll come out to bare our Bamsies on Independence Carnival, without even a thought we could’ve paused in front of the President Complex on the way to the Square to show our displeasure. How? Well…MOON HIM!!
My dear readers, the theologian and ethicist Reinhold Niebuhr, could have been talking about Guyana when he said: “Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible; but man’s inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary”. As the PNC attacks the Chief Justice over her insistence that the government implement the law that it’s passed, let us appreciate the injustice being done to Guyana, in wanting the government and its officials to be beyond Judicial Review.
Too many have died and suffered while fighting the first PNC to bring back democracy on Oct 5th 1992.
Let’s tear down these (green) PNC bricks of oppression.

…stuffing a mouth
So the AFC’s Sherod Duncan been made the GM of the State media? Is he still going to be vocal against the Babylon ensconced in City Hall? Naah!! The mouth’s always muzzled by the green brick pushed inside!!
