Another minibus accident on EBD leaves several injured

Another accident along the East Bank Demerara on Saturday, involving a route 42 minibus has left a number of passengers traumatised and nursing injuries after it toppled and landed on its side at the Diamond Public Road. This is the second such accident in less than a week.

According to eyewitnesses, the speeding minibus, with licence plate BTT 1309, was heading to Timehri when it hit the curb of the pavement. The vehicle spun several times before toppling onto its side.
It is reported that the injured passengers were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. There are also reports that one of the passengers may have suffered a miscarriage.
When contacted, Deputy Superintendent Ramesh Ashram could not confirm the facts of the accident.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday last, another minibus accident at Herstelling, EBD, claimed the life of its conductor.
The driver of that minibus, Kevin Ferrel, was taken before the courts charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was granted bail in the sum of $1.5 million.
He was ordered to return to court on November 1, 2016.
Reports indicate that the driver of the route 42 minibus lost control, causing it to collide into a pole before toppling on its left side. The accident occurred a short distance from the Providence Police Station.
According to further reports reaching Guyana Times, the conductor’s head was pinned when the minibus toppled.
A passenger in the bus spoke to this newspaper, relating that the bus was heading to Georgetown and as it was navigating the ‘S’ turn at Herstelling, it developed some problems.
“The bus start wobbling like something wrong with the back wheel and when the bus go around the turn, it start wobbling more bad. (The driver) couldn’t pull breaks cause if he do that, everybody in the bus woulda dead,” the man recalled.
He further added that the conductor sustained the most severe injuries as he was bleeding profusely from his nose and mouth. The conductor later succumbed.
