ANSA McAL celebrates 25th anniversary with Public Service Award

As ANSA McAL celebrates its 25th anniversary of operations in Guyana, the distribution company has embarked on its Public Service Award, aimed at honouring the frontrunners within three different professions for their service to the country.

Managing Director of ANSA McAL Guyana, Troy Cadogan

This was announced during a press conference on Thursday at which the Managing Director of the Group of Companies, Troy Cadogan outlined the entity’s plans for the commemoration of their quarter century milestone this year.
In doing so he noted that, “In launching the Public Service Award, we will be honouring the excellence of the best teacher in the country, best nurse and the best Policeman in the country.”
With that being established, Cadogan went on to explained what prompted his company to seek out and honour public servants within these three fields.
“We feel that these three professions are often down trodden,” expressed the Managing Director who further detailed that, “With the emergence of the private school phenomenon, the public school system is in need of a shot to the arm whereby we need to showcase the excellence that’s in there. Every time you hear about a nurse’s story, you hear about the negative side of it. And every time you talk about a Policeman, you only hear the negative part.”
As such, he highlighted that this platform paves the way for the professionals to be applauded for their dedication within their various field.
Meanwhile, also speaking at the announcement of the Public Service Award was Corretta McDonald, the General Secretary of the Guyana Teachers Union. In welcoming this initiative, McDonald underlined the significance of recognising teachers for their service to Guyana.
“The Guyana Teachers Union is quite pleased at the initiative taken by ANSA McAL. We look at it as being a very bold step. Over the years, teachers are the ones who create all professions but many times, the teachers are not recognised for contributions that we make to the society,” expressed the General Secretary who thereby thanked the company for taking this leap.
Moreover, McDonald indicated that the GTU is prepared to support ANSA McAL as they embark on pin pointing the awardees. The recipients will be decorated in grand style with the official ceremony being slated for next year.
Adding to the Public Service Award, ANSA McAL has tabled a number of other activities for the celebration of their 25th anniversary in Guyana.
These include the construction of a public park within the vicinity of the East Coast Highway arch and community outreaches in Beterverwagting, where the company is situated.
Ever since the establishment of ANSA McAL (Guyana) in 1992, the company has gone on to be one of the leading distribution entities across the country. They are particularly known as the carrier of top names in food, beverages and pharmaceutical supplies. Aside from priding itself on being big on social consciousness, ANSA McAL has in their employ a total of 251 Guyanese along with an excess of 100 local contracted workers. This all adds up to the entity’s interest in creating opportunities for Guyanese. (Ashraf Dabie)
