ANSA McAL commits $20M to youth, education programmes

ANSA McAL and the ANSA McAL Foundation have committed $20 million to support Three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) implementing youth development and education programmes in communities across Guyana.
The awards were presented on Tuesday at Cara Lodge by ANSA McAL Country Head for Guyana and Suriname, Troy Cadogan, following a national call for social investment proposals in May that attracted more than 40 submissions.
The selected organisations are Project New Nation, Tamùkke Feminists and Blossom Inc, which will receive funding to implement programmes targeting vulnerable youth, career guidance and the empowerment of young women in Indigenous communities.
Project New Nation received $5 million to roll out a youth career-guidance programme in Bartica, Region Seven, aimed at supporting young people as they consider their future career paths.
Blossom Inc will receive $10 million to implement a year-long education-equity initiative for vulnerable young people between the ages of 12 and 26 in Region Seven.
The remaining $5 million will go to Tamùkke Feminists to produce a video series designed to strengthen the voices of young women in the Wapichan Indigenous community in the South Rupununi.
According to the organisations, the awards followed a selection process that included site visits to shortlisted NGOs and a capacity-building workshop.
Guyanese social development consultant Tiffany Kirton supported the site visits and workshop as part of the process.
The investment, the company said, is intended to support programmes that address education and youth development needs, with the selected organisations expected to carry out their respective initiatives in the communities they serve.
