APNU/AFC to be solely blamed for degrading Guyana’s international image – TNM
The New Movement (TNM) is calling on caretaker President David Granger to concede defeat and pave the way for the peaceful transfer of power.
The party which contested the March 2 General and Regional Elections said that Granger needed to come out from behind the shadows and lead his party away from the seat of power and put the will of the Guyanese people above all.
It noted that the unfortunate events, since the close of polls on the night of March 2, 2020 have taken a massive toll on the nation’s identity and economy, adding that Guyana was now on the discussion agenda in the international community conferences for all the wrong reasons. The TNM said that Guyanese were not only being economically affected but also mentally tormented by the impasse in the electoral process.
In a statement, TNM said the A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) coalition was to be solely blamed for the local and international outlook on Guyana, explaining that its gross incompetence and mediocre approach to the entire election must come to an end.
“This selfish behaviour, as The New Movement sees it, will not aid the current political situation towards completion, but towards further demise of the coalition, this country, and her people. Therefore, The New Movement reiterates its call, that has seemed to fall on deaf ears and blind eyes, for the coalition to concede your defeat with dignity and bring an end to the misinformation and incompetent legal battles peddled under your Administration,” TNM stated.
The party commended the GECOM Chair, Retired Justice Claudette Singh for her steadfastness. However, it called on her to convene a meeting to declare the elections as well as deal with the insubordination of Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield, since there was no stay in the CJ’s judgement in relation to the Jones’ matter.
“The citizens of this nation want to move on and move forward with their lives. The courts have summarised that these matters to be res judicata meaning that matters that have been adjudicated by a competent court and, therefore, may not be pursued further by the same parties and further any other new parties,” the TNM noted.
In addition, the party reiterated that the recount figures were the only results that should be used for the declaration of the results.
The national recount shows that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) won the March 2 polls with 233,336 votes. APNU/AFC secured 217,920 votes. (G2)
