Arrows and bows were put to work over the last weekend as Archery Guyana hosted their 2026 National Indoor Championships at the Cliff Anderson’s Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue.
Some 56 participants made their way to the shooting line over the two-day event, leading the Archery Guyana President to hail what is now being considered the largest indoor championships to date.
“Fantastic, amazing weekend for archery. So, archery has grown a lot over the past few years, and in fact, today we’ve broken more barriers with preparing for the Caribbean Development Championships that we’ll be hosting here in Guyana in October, Persaud-McKinnon told this publication on Sunday.
She continued, “This has been the largest participation to date. I would like to commend all the clubs for coming forward. As we just saw, President Godfrey Munroe mentioned how important this is and how it goes towards ranking and international selection.”
Aside from the competitive aspects of the championships, Persaud-McKinnon explained how the organisation seized the opportunity to prepare, logistically, for the CDC in October.

“So, we tested a few readiness positions. I’d like to say our results team is fantastic. We’ve been working with a software called Ianseo, so anyone could get live scores and all the pictures. We also had an official photographer for the event. We also had a timing system implemented for this event, which will be used in October. So, a lot of international standards are involved,” the archery Guyana President revealed.
Though the National Indoor Championships had an unprecedented turnout, the Association’s President is still keen on attracting more archers to the sport.
To this end, she stated, “The idea is that we’re going to have a club right near you in your community. Even if you’re interested in it, safety is paramount. We have our doors open, and we look forward to having you try the sport.”
As Archery Guyana presses forward, Persaud-McKinnon also divulged plans to provide vision testing for archers, especially national athletes.
Note: The Guyana Times Sport would like to correct two sets of results published in a story earlier this week regarding the National Indoor Championships. Pro Archers’ Purshotam Sharma captured third place in the Men’s Recurve event, while Errol Toppin, also of Pro Archers, finished third in the Men’s Compound division.
