
The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana Inc has announced the engagement of Ms Lourdes Maria Mederos Regalado as its full-time National Archery Coach, marking a transformative milestone in the Federation’s continued commitment to structured athlete development and high-performance excellence.
Mederos Regalado is a graduate in physical culture from the “Manuel Fajardo” Higher Institute of Physical Culture in Havana, Cuba, and brings over two decades of experience in international archery, both as an elite athlete and as a national-level coach.
Her distinguished career includes:
Member of the Cuban National Archery Team for eight years (1994–2002)
Participation in multiple World Championships, Pan American competitions, Central American & Caribbean Championships, and Olympic qualifying tournaments
Qualification achievement for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
World junior indoor record holder
Multi-medallist and national record holder in several international and domestic tournaments
Main Archery Coach (Children’s Category), 10 de Octubre Municipality, Havana (2021–2024)
Coach of the Havana Provincial Cadet Team (2011–2014)
Provincial Sports Methodologist in Havana (2004–2007)
She has completed Olympic Solidarity coaching courses and advanced seminars in sports planning and psychological preparation of high-performance athletes.
“Coach Lula”, as she is often referred to as, will lead the technical development of archers across beginner, junior, and elite levels; strengthen the Junior Programme; design structured national training systems; and mentor emerging coaches to build sustainable technical capacity within Guyana.
President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon stated, “The engagement of a full-time national coach represents a defining moment for Archery Guyana. Coach Lourdes brings not only elite international experience but also a proven record of developing young talent and building structured, high-performance programmes. This appointment signals our commitment to long-term excellence.”
The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana has extended its sincere gratitude to President Godfrey Munroe and the Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association, as well as to Director of Sport Mr Steve Ninvalle and the National Sports Commission of Guyana, whose support and collaboration made this important step possible. Their commitment to strengthening national sport development continues to create meaningful opportunities for athletes across Guyana.
This engagement forms part of Archery Guyana’s broader strategic objective to elevate the sport nationally, expand grassroots participation, and enhance Guyana’s competitiveness regionally and internationally.
