…battling for life at WDRH

Deokumar Lakhan, a 32-year-old barber, is now battling for his life after he was stabbed at his place of work at Belle West, West Bank Demerara by a 23-year-old male on Tuesday at around 21:00h.
Guyana Times understands that Lakhan was at his barber shop when the suspect, who was armed with a short object, ran into the shop and an argument ensued between them. Police said the suspect then approached the barber and dealt him several stabs about his body, as a result of which Lakhan fell to the ground in an unconscious state.
Picked up by public-spirited citizens, Lakhan was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor and later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. His condition is regarded as serious.
Later contacted, told of the offence and cautioned in accordance with the Judge’s Rules, the suspect remained silent. He was arrested and taken to the Wales Police Station, where he has been placed in custody pending further investigations. (G9)
