Armed bandits attack drunken men, rob elderly woman

Armed men on Friday stormed the home of an 83-year-old woman at Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast in Region two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), carting off with valuables and cash.
Police stated that the incident occurred at about 01:20h at the residence belonging to Parbattie Sooklall.
Based on reports received, two occupants of the house, 52-year-old Ricardo France and 46-year-old Richard Patterson, were consuming alcohol with one of the doors open.
They were confronted by two men – both wearing face masks and one was armed with a handgun and the other with a cutlass.
The man with the cutlass began assaulting both France and Patterson while the other suspect went to the elderly woman’s room where he demanded that she hand over her valuables.
Fearful for her life, the woman complied and handed over a quantity of jewellery and $150,000 cash. The man, after collecting the loot, escaped.
The Police were contacted and an investigation has been launched.
