Armed bandits beat, rob miners at Cuyuni camp

Three armed and masked men on Friday beat and robbed several miners at a mining camp along the Cuyuni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The incident occurred sometime between 08:30h and 11:00h on Friday, December 26, 2025. Preliminary information indicates that three masked English-, Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking males, dressed in camouflage and armed with firearms, arrived at the mining camp located at 68 Backdam, Cuyuni River, where they held the workers at gunpoint before escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.
Among the victims was a 58-year-old Brazilian national and gold miner, also of 68 Backdam. During the ordeal, several persons, including the 58-year-old, received injuries.
A team of Police ranks was reportedly en route to the location to conduct further investigations at the time of the Police report, as efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects.
Investigations are continuing.
