Armed bandits invade Mahaica home

A Mahaica, East Coast of Demerara (ECD) woman has been left traumatised after she was attacked and robbed by armed bandits who invaded her home on Saturday.
Reports are the robbery occurred at about 07:13h on Saturday while the victim was in the lower flat of her home cooking.
She related that she heard her dogs barking aggressively which raised her suspicion and prompted her to investigate. She related to Police that upon peering through her window, she saw a man jumping her fence, which caused her to panic. According to the victim, the man rushed into her home and grabbed her at gunpoint.
It was reported that the man demanded that the woman hand over her cash and jewellery. She told investigators she handed over a black plastic bag which contained $3 million cash and other valuables. Reports are that as one of the bandits demanded valuables, an accomplice also rushed into the home and took her phone. She said that both men escaped on a bicycle.
Following the incident, Police were summoned to the scene, where a search was conducted on the house. Police found a .32 ammunition in the lower flat of the house.
Investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, just days ago, a 49-year-old labourer and his 44-year-old wife were attacked and robbed by three armed bandits who invaded their Number 76 Village, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) home and escaped with cash and other valuables.
Bibi Bhoelan was in her yard when the three bandits, one armed with a handgun and the others with cutlasses and knives, rushed into the yard.
Her husband, Abdoelkajoem Bhoelan, was also in the yard when the bandits invaded.
The perpetrators forced the couple into the lower flat of their house where they made demands for valuables whilst beating the duo.
According to a police report, after retrieving some US$500 along with a quantity of local currency, and two cell phones, the bandits forced the couple upstairs where they tied them up with plastic straps. They also placed pillowcases over their heads.
The husband managed to free himself, rush onto the veranda and raise an alarm.
However, the bandits had already escaped. (G9)
