Armed bandits raid Guy-America store, beat owner

The owner of a popular business at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was on Wednesday evening assaulted by armed bandits just before his entity was robbed of approximately .3 million in cash.
According to information received from Police “D” Division Commander Leslie James, the robbery took place at about 20:30hrs.
Reports are that the owner of the popular business Guy-America, 61-year-old Mohamed Ali of Zeeburg, was in the process of closing his business when two bandits, one of whom was armed with a “long gun”, entered the store.
The suspects reportedly began to threaten Ali while demanding that he turn over his cash and valuables. When the entrepreneur hesitated, the bandit holding the gun hit Ali several times over the head, causing the elderly man to bleed.
This newspaper was informed that the ordeal lasted approximately 15 minutes, and the bandits stole .3million as well as other valuables, including Ali’s mobile phone.
They then fled the scene in a silver grey Toyota Premio car that was waiting outside of the business premises.
The Police “D” Division Commander noted that according to the reports received, the perpetrators fled the scene in a westerly direction, heading to Parika.
So far, no one has been arrested, but investigations into the crime continue. (Ramona Luthi)
