A wash bay owner was on Wednesday morning robbed at gunpoint by four armed men. The incident occurred at about 11:15h at the Presidential Touch Wash Bay located at Lot 38 Public Road, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to reports, the victim, 51-year-old Debbie Atwell of Eccles, EBD, was relieved of her gold chain valued $150,000; two gold rings valued $70,000, and one gold band valued $100,000 by the bandits, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
It was reported that Atwell was sitting on a chair on the eastern side of the wash bay facing west, and was checking her cellphone when she felt someone pull her chain from her neck.
The businesswoman immediately looked up, and saw one of the perpetrators with a gun in his hands standing in front her; and the three others behind her were armed with knives.
This newspaper was told that the bandits told the woman not to raise and alarm, and then the gunman relieved her of the other items before the quartet made good its escape on foot. The four bandits headed north on the East Bank Public Road, then turned east into the Industrial Site Access Road.
The matter was reported, and an investigation has since been launched.
