Three armed men carried out a daring daylight robbery on the Guyoil Service Station at Track ‘E’ Good Hope, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday.
The Police have said that on Wednesday, at about 17:30h, two Guyoil pump attendants were performing duties at Good Hope, Mahaica, and as one of them was fuelling route 50 minibus BWW 2987, three armed and masked men entered the gas station, held on to the pump attendants, and relieved them of the cash and other valuables in their possession.
19-year-old Alisha Barnes of Helena #1, Mahaica, ECD was relieved of $160,000, and 20-year-old Iyansha Moses of Plantation Hope, ECD was relieved of $80,000.
However, not satisfied with that quantity of loot, the bandits, who were armed with a handgun and a knife, entered the minibus and robbed the passengers.
Minibus driver Iftikar Rahamat,39, of Mon Repos, ECD, was relieved of US$400, Gy$18,000, two Samsung S9 cellular phones, and the key to the minibus. Besides that, the bandits confiscated $100,000 in cash and one cellular phone and a wallet with documents from David Shaiwupaul, 67, of Cove and John, ECD; $10,000 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy A11 mobile phone from Errol Wheeler, a 44-year-old security guard of Good Hope Mahaica, ECD; and one key for Canter GPP 2645 from Nicholas Narine,44, a shopkeeper of Helena #1 Mahaica, ECD.
After committing the robbery, the men made good their escape on foot. The matter was reported, and one person was subsequently taken into Police custody to assist with investigations.
