Armed bandits terrorise, rob Parfait Harmonie family

A La Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) businessman and his family were on Sunday morning terrorised and robbed by five heavily armed bandits.
The robbery occurred sometime between 03:45h and 04:00h by men armed with handguns and cutlasses.

According to the Police, the businessman and his family usually leave home around 03:30h to conduct business on Sundays at the La Penitence Market.
However, as he came downstairs to start his vehicle, he observed muddied footprints in his yard and became suspicious. As he attempted to rush back into the house, he was accosted by one of the bandits who pointed a gun at him and ordered him to remain silent.
Shortly after, he saw more men under his house. Two of them reportedly tied him up, while the others went into the upper flat where they also tied up his wife and two daughters.
The businessman was also taken to the upper flat where the suspects demanded money and jewellery from the family and in the process, he was beaten to the head with a gun. His wife was also assaulted.
The five bandits managed to get their hands on $710,000 in Guyanese currency; US$500; 6 mobile phones; one Lenovo laptop; 2 Samsung tablets; one portable DVD player; one Playstation3 with control and games; 1 laptop speaker box; 2 speaker boxes; five wristwatches; one wedding band; four pairs of gold earrings; two silver foot chains; three silver rings; 3 silver bands; 1 gold chain with pendant, and 13 pieces of raw diamond.
After committing the robbery, the perpetrators made good their escape. The family subsequently raised an alarm and the Police were summoned.
An investigation is underway.
